Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect
Nothing is more devastating than when you learn that a parent or loved one has experienced abuse or neglect in a nursing home. Founding partner, Catherine D. Battista, has committed her practice to advocating for the victims of nursing home abuse and neglect – and seeking the justice that these innocent persons deserve.
What is Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect?
Examples of nursing home abuse and neglect include dehydration, malnutrition, urinary tract infection, sepsis, bed sores, pressure ulcers, not preventing falls, unexplainable bruising and lacerations, unlawful restraint, over-medicating to control behavior, the negligent administration of medication not intended for the resident, emotional and physical abuse, sexual abuse and/or assault, failing to respond to call lights, failing to shower the resident, failing to maintain the resident’s cleanliness, failing to assist the resident to the toilet, failing to change a resident’s incontinence undergarments, failing to prevent a resident suffering from mental illness from escaping the facility and otherwise failing to provide a nursing home resident with the care and compassion they deserve.
Investigating Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect
Our office investigates suspected nursing home abuse and neglect. We obtain a copy of the resident’s medical record and have it reviewed. If we determine that there has been possible abuse and/or neglect, we file a claim in court to pursue violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act, 210 ILCS 45/1-101 et seq. as well as other claims. We then work to obtain compensation for the victims of nursing home abuse and neglect by recovering for their medical bills and expenses, pain and suffering, disability, loss of a normal life, disfigurement and emotional suffering.
While we can never guarantee a result, we strive to obtain the best possible outcome for nursing home abuse and neglect victims and their families.
